Your chance to volunteer at St Judes

Thirty enthusiastic volunteers are needed to help roll out the first-ever Spoken English Immersion Program at The School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania, which is planned to run every June.

The School of St Jude is widely sponsored and supported by Australian communities, including the Women About Hay group.

The 2026 program will run from June 18 to July 4 and volunteers must commit to the full program, including weekdays and Saturday mornings. No teaching qualification is needed.

You’ll be supporting 300 newly enrolled secondary students, mostly aged 15 and older, with a small group of senior students.

These students come from government schools and have written English skills but limited chances to practice speaking with native speakers, so they lack confidence in their oral English.

They are bright, respectful, and eager to improve, knowing that strong spoken English greatly enhances their future job prospects in Tanzania. You’ll help them build fluency and confidence through fun, interactive sessions like storytelling, interviews, debates, role plays, skits, charades, speech contests, and more.

Applicants need to be outgoing, have a sense of humour, and a willingness to change and adapt in response to the unexpected.

For further details or to learn more about The School of St Jude, contact Tertia Butcher on 0467 285 075 after business hours.
