Work on Wilcannia mural kicks off

Year nine and 10 students from Wilcannia Central School have started looking at all the community feedback shared for the mural, to be painted on the side of the Wilcannia Motel,.

They’ve found strong themes like totems (emu, eagle, kangaroo), a local story and works in Baarkindji/ Paarkantji.

Students want to use bright colours, footprints of animals and people and symbols of community.

Some detailed things like paddle steamers and people may be too tricky to paint so they’re working on simpler designs.

Students would love to hear community thoughts and feedback on their choices.

Also, we’d like to know how you prefer Baarkindji/Paakantji to be spelt, or if you’d like to include both versions on the wall (we understand that it can be spelt different ways) Let us know if there are other important words you'd like to see in the mural too.

Get in touch with the school to submit feedback.
