Successful feedback sessions: Roy Butler

A feedback session regarding the revised Wilcannia Weir Project recently took place, drawing approximately 30 attendees and lasting around 2.5 hours.

Roy Butler recently expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in the session.

During the meeting, numerous issues were brought up.

Notably, some of these concerns, such as the location of the weir, fell outside the purview of the independent review.

Despite this, Roy Butler assured participants that all feedback would be communicated to Minister Rose Jackson.

The next step in the process involves the finalization of the report.

There is hope that with the new information gathered during the feedback session, Minister Jackson will support the original design of the Wilcannia Weir Project.

Following the update from Roy Butler, local resident Jillian McNamara highlighted on social media the critical need for more regular flows down the Darling-Baaka River to ensure the river's health at Wilcannia at all times.

She also commented on the project's timeline, suggesting that the original design, which had consensus, could have been completed by now.

In December 2024, the Minister for Water, Rose Jackson commenced a review of the proposed design for the replacement of Wilcannia Weir.

The Minister made the decision to undertake a review following a visit to Wilcannia to meet with the community in June 2024, and has since formed an Independent Review Panel.
