A love for the Hay community and a desire to see it prosper was at the core of Carol’s desire to become a councillor with Hay Shire Council. She is committed to moving the community forward by embracing the opportunities that lie ahead. Hay is a great place to visit, work, live and play and Carol wants to keep it that way.
With over two decades of dedicated service to the Hay community, she brings a wealth of leadership experience, governance expertise, and a deep commitment to fostering local opportunities. She has served as Mayor of Hay Shire Council for the past three years and was recently re-elected to serve as Mayor until September 2026.
For 16 years, she was Principal of Hay Public School, retiring in October 2021.She championed educational excellence and led initiatives to prepare students for a bright future. Hay Public School was a very special place to work, being a great school in a great community. Students are given many educational opportunities of an academic, cultural and sporting nature. Carol was fortunate to have led the school at a time when governments were committed to closing the gap for rural and remote students by providing extra funding to support many wonderful facilities and programs.
As Chair of the Local Health Advisory Committee, Carol has worked to address the region’s health needs, collaborating with health professionals, policymakers, and community members to advocate for better services. This role has further developed her governance skills and strengthened her ability to work within complex regulatory environments.
She has also served on the board of Hayday’s Retirement Hostel for the past year, where she’s taken on the role of overseeing the facility’s financial health, ensuring it remains sustainable while delivering essential services to the elderly in our community.
As a councillor Carol works hard for the community and knows that it’s people that make our community tick, along with a successful economy. She’s committed to serving all from the youngest residents through to the senior residents to make Hay liveable, vibrant and thriving well into the future.
