Large volumes of water have started to arrive in Menindee Lakes in recent days after making its way down from Queensland into the Barwon-Darling system.

WaterNSW has been tracking the progress of this large inflow event from northern basin tributaries through the river network, including via newly installed gauges on Talyawalka Creek and the Paroo River, to understand the potential impact on the Menindee Lakes system.

Menindee Lakes can hold more than 1,700GL of water – equivalent to around 680,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. With this water now arriving, the lakes have around 50% of capacity available to fill.

With room to capture this water in the lake system, flood operations will not be required in Menindee but rather a welcome return to water security in the region.

Keep an eye on the Menindee Lakes storage levels via WaterInsights.
