ProTen round 4 preview - Games head to Lizards territory

By Jamie Parsons

Narrandera is the next host for Round 4, this Saturday on June 21.

The women’s teams will have the week off, with a general bye scheduled for the round due to the reduced women’s draw.

Ivanhoe will enjoy another week on top of the ladder, with the bye going their way taking them to 8 points.

Second spot is up for grabs with Barellan v Goolgowi and Hillston v Rankins Springs all currently on 4 points.

Rankins Springs v Hillston

Both teams have won in big scorelines v Deniliquin but have lost their only other matches vs other clubs.

Rankins Springs won both games between the two last year. Ball control will be the key with the Dragons hands’ letting them down against the Rams and the same for the Bluebirds against Goolgowi last week.

Hillston have a poor record at Narrandera they will be keen to rectify.

Head-to-Head: Rankins Springs 5, Hillston 4

Record at Narrandera: Rankins Springs Won 4, Lost 2, Drew 1. Hillston Won 0, Lost 7

Barellan v Goolgowi

Goolgowi are enjoying their best start to a season since 2021, while Barellan sit outside the top 4 but only on for and against behind the three teams that have played Deniliquin.

A win here could send either team to outright second and Barellan would likely wrap up a finals appearance with games v Hillston & Deniliquin to come along with a bye.

Barellan won a close 16-10 game in their last meeting in Round 2 last season.

Head-to-Head: Goolgowi 7, Barellan 2

Record at Narrandera: Barellan Won 2, Lost 4. Goolgowi Won 4, Lost 2

Narrandera v Deniliquin

Both sides are currently without a win and while Deniliquin played their best half of the year in the second half last match they are up against it here with the Lizards at home.

Narrandera haven’t lost a round game at home since 2021 and will be eager to put the disappointment of the grand final loss behind them.

Head-to-Head: First Meeting

Record at Narrandera: Narrandera Won 5, Lost 3. Deniliquin First Appearance
