Good news for the town of Ivanhoe, with Central Darling Shire providing the solution to an ongoing cause for concern.
With the announcement that Ivanhoe Post Office would close by the end of the year if it was not sold, people in the community became concerned essential services such as banking, bill paying and other services the post office provide would be lost to them.
Central Darling Shire has confirmed a solution, and have secured everything needed to fulfil the contract.
“Recent correspondence from Australia Post advised they would fund the improvements needed structurally and upgrades,” Mr Hill said.
“This is a great step, and one that will allow council to provide much needed services to the Ivanhoe community.”
Mr Hill had been previously informed Australia Post management Council will not sign an Australia Post contract unless financial assistance is made available, to implement minor infrastructure and security requirements needed.
Mark Coulton MP then wrote to the Communications Minister to seek assurances that the postal services will be retained at Ivanhoe.
Best of all, no interruption to postal services will occur at Ivanhoe during the changeover.
Locals Ray and Jan Longfellow had run the Post Office for some 40 years, and are looking forward to their much needed retirement.
These services will recommence under the council October 9.
