So it's official: Ivanhoe Postal services are now operational at Central Darling Shire's Multi Purpose Outlet in Columbus Street.
People can call down to the MPS for all the activities they used to undertake at Ivanhoe Post office.
This is a very welcome outcome for the community which has approximately 196 residents.
It secures a vital postal and banking service for the town and surrounding district.
This comes after the town’s post office closed its doors when no buyer was found after two years on the market.
To ensure that Ivanhoe wasn’t left without a licensed post office discussions between Council and Australia Post resulted in the successful outcome.
Central Darling Shire Council earlier welcomed news from Australia Post that it would provide the necessary financial help to enable Council to ensure that a licensed post office would continue in Ivanhoe. This week Australia Post and Council staff have been setting up the new service in the Council building. Staff have also undertaken training with Australia Post.
The Ivanhoe Licensed Post Office is operating with existing staff and facilities.
It was not viable for Council to purchase an additional building to host the postal services, as this would result in additional costs in building operations and maintenance.
The services being provided include banking via Bank@Post, bill payment, postage and mail delivery services.
