The annual Ivanhoe Pig Comp has removed thousands of feral pests from the landscape, following another successful event.

More than 500 entrants removed a total of 2208 feral pigs across the event, as well as wild dogs, foxes, rabbits and feral cats.

Heaviest boar recorded over the June Long Weekend weighed in at 94.5 kilograms but it was a sow that topped the scales at 107 kilograms.

The annual event is the brainchild of Ivanhoe’s Josh Robinson, and since first running in 2016, has become a popular trip for hunters across NSW and Victoria.

As well as providing an ecomonic boost to local business, the competition also raises funds for the mental health charity, The Black Dog Ride, and Ivanhoe’s own not-for-profit groups.

APDHA national president Ned Makim said competitions such as this deserve more recognition for the impact they have on the battle against a booming pig problem in the region.
