People in Wilcannia and surrounds should take advantage of the great opportunity; a free vaccination clinic.
It's on this Friday, May 16 from 10am to 2pm at the Wilcannia Community Hall.
The clinic is offering Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) vaccinations, and 2025 Influenza (Flu) vaccinations.
No bookings are required, you will just need your Medicare Card and identification.
About Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV):
Japanese encephalitis is a rare but serious illness caused by being bitten by a mosquito infected with the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV).
People who work or do outside activities (e.g. camping, fishing, gardening) in high-risk areas are more likely to get Japanese encephalitis virus.
To reduce the risk of serious disease from JEV, it’s recommended eligible people aged two months and older get a JEV vaccine.
About Influenza (Flu):
Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.
People can get influenza at any time throughout the year but is most common in autumn and winter.
Severe cases can result in breathing difficulties and pneumonia. People in NSW can die from flu-related illness.
Everyone aged six months and over is recommended to get an annual flu vaccine to protect themselves from influenza.
The clinic is delivered by Far West Local Health District in partnership with RFDS.
