“5G just doesn't work properly yet,” Helen said.
“We are on our farms or in town and we cannot get a signal.”
“What will happen when someone is trapped under a tractor and can’t call 000? People will die and the telcos don’t seem to understand, or care.”
Ms Dalton said the 5G rollout by telecommunication companies has also increased risks around natural disasters.
“People got rid of their UHF radios because they could count on 3G,” Helen said.
“But with 3G gone and 5G not working, we won't be able to call each other when we are facing another natural disaster.”
Ms Dalton is calling on the Federal Government to insist telecommunications companies re instate the 3G network until they can guarantee 5G offers proper coverage levels.
“Digital connectivity affects every aspect of our lives in rural NSW,” Helen said.
“It affects businesses. It affects public safety. It affects access to Government services. It affects tourism. It affects the education of our kids. It affects isolation and mental health issues. Connectivity affects absolutely everything.”
“The people of rural NSW deserve to he heard by Governments, and they deserve to heard when they are using their phones for that matter.”
