Police appealing for information after fatal crash

A person has died after their ute left the road and burst into flames in a single-vehicle crash near Barellan, about 50 kilometres east of Griffith.

The burnt-out vehicle was discovered just off Kolkilbertoo Road on Saturday morning, with emergency services called to the scene around 9.30am on November 1.

The driver's body was found inside the wreckage, but authorities have not yet been able to confirm their identity.

Police believe the crash occurred overnight, though the exact timing remains unclear.

The remote location of the incident meant the vehicle wasn't discovered until the following morning. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to formally identify the victim and determine the cause of death.

Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash, including how the vehicle left the road and what caused it to catch fire.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact local police.
