A man has been charged with driving while disqualified after allegedly fleeing from police and hiding in bushland near Yanco on Friday afternoon.
At 1:32pm on Friday, 28 November, police were conducting proactive patrols in the Yanco township when an officer observed a silver Ford Falcon utility travelling on Irrigation Way. Police conducted a U-turn behind the vehicle and caught up to it approximately one kilometre outside the Yanco township.
As officers approached, they stopped the utility on the side of Irrigation Way. Police will allege the driver exited the driver's seat of the vehicle, jumped into a small dried-up canal and ran into nearby bushland. He was wearing a bright blue t-shirt at the time.
Officers called out to the man several times, however, he continued attempting to hide. Police searched the area and eventually located the man concealed in the bushland.
Officers will further allege that when they cautioned and questioned the man in relation to his driving, he admitted he had panicked and run from police. The man also allegedly admitted to being aware of his licence disqualification, having been charged for the same offence two weeks prior to this incident.
The man was subsequently charged with driving while disqualified.
