Deniliquin will take on Ivanhoe, Hillston have their last chance for finals footy against Narrandera and old rivals Goolgowi and Rankins Springs meet.
The women’s comp has another general bye, but an exhibition game will be played between Barellan Rams and Hay Magpies.
Match previews:
Rankins Springs v Goolgowi – 12pm
The Dragons have won three straight and need to win again to stay in the top two. Goolgowi have fallen away the last two weeks and need a big win to have any chance of finals footy this year. Last time these two met it was a close 18-6 to Rankins Springs at Goolgowi round four last year. Dragons President Brent Parsons will become the first player to play 50 Proten Cup games.
Head-to-Head: Goolgowi 5, Rankins Springs 4
Hillston v Narrandera – 1.10pm
Hillston’s last throw of the dice to make finals, needing the win here and another win next week, while hoping Narrandera lose in round seven. The team can pull it off but will need all their defensive strength against a Lizards attack that has come alive again in the last two rounds. Last time they met Narrandera defeated Hillston at Hillston 34-12 in round five last year.
Head-to-Head: Narrandera 6, Hillston 2
Deniliquin v Ivanhoe – 3.00pm
The Blueheelers finally get a chance at home after four long road trips away. Surely the time for their best team to get on the paddock, Deniliquin can only avoid the wooden spoon with a win here. Ivanhoe will be looking to raise their for-and-against a bit with the three-way tie at the top, with those F/A points possibly deciding home finals.
