You might be thinking, yes, my child also rides home from school.
However, this was a ride with a difference, to say the least. Gus, then a Year 11 student at Scots All Saint School rode 365 kilometres home from Bathurst to his family farm near Rankins Springs.
Gus made the ride to raise awareness and a good $20,000 for the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of NSW (ICPA-NSW) and his local Rankins Springs branch as a way of giving back.
Gus started out on his mammoth ride at 3am on December 7, in the pouring rain.
He then battled the elements, cycling in the wet, and the heat; as the day went on, temperatures reached 35 degrees.
Gus rode into Rankins Springs at 3pm to tears and cheers from friends, family and the community.
A well-versed triathlete, this was an incredibly amazing feat even for an athlete such as Gus, ICPA NSW honoured Gus at the recent conference, delivering heartfelt thanks for the amazing effort.
