Look, we all know how uncomfortable and awkward breast screenings can be. I’m hearing you; I know what it’s like.
But it is a necessary activity, one which you can walk away from satisfied because it is over and done with for two years.
Broken Hill Health Service are holding free breast screens at their clinic, 176 Thomas Street in Broken Hill.
They’ll be running these screens from Monday February 10 until Friday February 21.
The radiographers are female and there is no referral needed.
It is recommended women aged 40 and over have a breast screen every two years.
It’s quick and easy and could save your life.
At the end of the day, the cost of peace of mind is 20 minutes every two years.
Early detection is so important. It allows for early treatment, which can increase treatment options and reduce illness and death.
Screening can help to find breast cancers early when they are too small to see or feel. These cancers are usually easier to treat than larger ones.
When breast cancer is detected early, the five-year relative survival rate is high.
A mammogram is the best way to detect breast cancer early for women over the age of 50.
One in seven women in NSW will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, and the risk of developing breast cancer increases with age.
