Balranald Shire Council is calling on the community to support its Discovery Centre precinct, which has been named as a finalist in a prestigious state awards program.

The precinct has been shortlisted for the 7News NSW and ACT Community Achievement Award in the Council Crown Land Management Excellence category, part of the Australia Awards.

Voting for the People's Choice Award is now open, with the council encouraging residents to cast their vote online.

The Discovery Centre precinct is the council's commitment to managing and developing crown land for community benefit and is a true showpiece of the town, drawing many tourists.

Community members can vote for the Balranald Shire Council entry by visiting the Australia Awards website at awardsaustralia.app.do/2025-community-achievement-awards-for-nsw-the-act.

The People's Choice Award gives the public the opportunity to have their say on which finalist should take home the honour, alongside the judges' decision.

Voting remains open for the awards, with the council hopeful of strong community support for the local project.
