Silver City Races cancelled

The Silver City Races will not proceed in 2025, with organisers citing inadequate track conditions as the primary reason for the cancellation.

The race committee announced the disappointing news this week, emphasising that the decision was "not made lightly".

"We have worked tirelessly with our track team and organising committee, however, we simply can't get the track conditions to an acceptable standard this year," the committee said in a statement.

The cancellation will come as a blow to the local community, trainers, and sponsors who have supported the popular racing event.

"We understand the disappointment this may cause to the community, trainers, and sponsors who support our event," the committee acknowledged.

The organisers stressed their commitment to maintaining high standards rather than proceeding with a subpar event.

"We don't want to run an 'average' event, we strive to have the best experience for our horses, trainers, jockeys and race patrons every year and can't guarantee that for 2025," the statement continued.

Despite the setback, the committee remains optimistic about the future, saying it looked forward to racing returning in 2026.

The Silver City Races have been a highlight of the local racing calendar, drawing participants and spectators from across the region.
