Pooncarie Road opening celebrated at Menindee

$48.8m road sealing project will open up the Back Country

The completion of the sealing of the Pooncarie Road at Menindee was celebrated by Central Darling and Wentworth Shire representatives Bob Stewart and Daniel Linklater, Member for Barwon Roy Butler and locals alike.

“On hand to share the moment with the locals were, Aunt Dorothy who gave the Welcome to Country,” Mr Butker said.

Also in attendance were Minister for Regional Roads, Jenny Aitchison MP and Acting Regional Director West, Transport for NSW Holly Davies.

The stretch from the outback towns of Menindee and Pooncarie was completed thanks to a joint $48.8 million collaboration between the State and Federal governments.

“The fully sealed road is a benefit to the local communities, improving safety, road capacity and access to essential services,” Mr Butler said.

“It opens an additional freight route and will attract more tourists to the western part of the state.

“I want to thank the CWA - Menindee NSW for their delicious food.”
