Peter Westblade scholarship applications open soon

Applications for the 2025 Peter Westblade Scholarship will open on February 1.

The Peter Westblade Scholarship aims to provide practical hands-on education and mentoring opportunities for young people pursuing a career in the Australian sheep and wool industry.

The scholarship is named in the memory of Lockart’s Peter Westblade, who established himself by buying his grandfather’s 400-hectare farm after leaving school at 16 years old.

Working in the shearing sheds to help meet the repayments, Peter went on to grow the original farm into 2,800 hectares running 3700 breeding ewes, before passing away in 2008.

The scholarship is supported by many industry leading businesses, including Woodpark Poll, Pooginook Merino and Poll and Riverina Wool Testers.

Past scholarship recipients include Chloe Dutschke, who received the scholarship in 2019 is now the committee secretary, and Anabel Lugsdin (2013).

The agricultural collective also runs hands-on training focusing on practical skills including stockmanship, dog handling, and stock health assessment.

Applications for the late May training weekend to be held at Wyvern Station, Carrathool, will open on February 10.

Scholarship applications close March 28, 2025. Further information: https://pwscholarship.au
