Make sure emergency services can find you in an emergency

Are you aware of the importance of rural addressing? This system is used by the Police, Fire, Ambulance and Rural Fire Service to determine your location and dispatch assistance in the event of an emergency, so you need to know your address.

It’s also really important to display your road number at the entry point to your property.

Your address is a combination of a road number, road name and locality.

For example, 17242 (road number) Silver City Highway (road name) Packsaddle (locality) is the official address for the Packsaddle Roadhouse.

A road number is determined as a distance in kilometres from a specific point (to two decimal places), such as a town or road intersection.

The property that matches the road number in our photo is 52.26kms from a major road intersection that emergency services will use as a reference point.

If you have an enquiry about your rural address contact Mark Schuhmacher, Spatial Services on (02) 6332 8315, or by email on [email protected].

Alternatively, email Spatial Services on [email protected] or do some exploring on the SIX maps website https://maps.six.nsw.gov.au/?search
