A fire has extensively damaged the High Street premises of Hillston Newsagent and LPO (local post office) today (Wednesday October 29)
Investigations are continuing but proprietor Manu Bedi said the retail section of the premises have been extensively damaged by fire and smoke.
The office section of the building has been smoke affected, but the rear section of the building - where mail and parcel post is stored and sorted - remains intact.
Ms Bedi said Australia Post representatives were already on site, and it is expected that mail services will re-commence by the end of next week, probably from temporary premises.
"We are holding it together but it is a very tough day," she told Back Country Bulletin.
Arrangements for the retail and lotto business are not yet confirmed.
