Hay is a country town of 3000 people, situated in the middle of Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.


The present site of Hay was located at the junction of four large 'squatter' properties, one of which was occupied by the Lang Brothers where an important river crossing was located. Stockmen would frequently camp at the site before crossing the river with their stock and even now the area is known as Langs Crossing. Hay was later renamed after Sir John Hay, a local squatter and politician.


Explore the town's historic buildings and learn about its fascinating past. With free self-guided tours of The Dunera Railway station, Old Hay Gaol, Shear outback Hall of Fame and walk the Bushy Bend Heritage Trail.

A brisk walk up the Main Street of Hay (Lachlan Street) will highlight historic interests such as The Post Office, Witcombe Fountain, Hay Japps Pharmacy, Westpac Bank, and the Sunbeam and Co Coach.

Hay offers both Free and Powered camping sites. As well as a free local pool and splash park to keep the whole family beaming.
