GOOLGOWI HOST HILLSTON ON REUNION WEEKEND

BY JAMIE PARSONS

The clubs return after the break and head to Goolgowi, where the home club are holding reunions for their premiership sides from 1965, 1985 and 2004-05. Goolgowi will play Hillston in honour of the 2005 Grand Final, won 31-28 by the Rabbitohs.

Barellan women’s have the bye, while in the men’s competition Narrandera will have the break.

Women’s Games

Rankins Springs v Ivanhoe

The Dragonettes jumped the Hens on the ladder last week but Ivanhoe gave possibly the most impressive performance of the season despite going down to Barellan. With only four games for the season this game will go a long way to deciding second spot on the ladder, and the Hens will need to go into their break with a winning record, with their next game not until Round 7. Ivanhoe won their last meeting 20-12 in Round 1 last year.

Head-to-Head: Rankins Springs 2, Ivanhoe 2

Record at Goolgowi:

Rankins Springs – Won 3, Lost 1

Ivanhoe – Won 1, Lost 5

Goolgowi v Hillston

Only one team will miss out on the finals this year and this will be a must win for both here, with the loser going winless into the general bye. Goolgowi will be 0-3 if they go down, with their only game left against the premiers in Round 5. But it’s their best chance to get on the winners list at home. Hillston have never beaten Goolgowi.

Head-to-Head: Goolgowi 4, Hillston 0

Record at Goolgowi:

Goolgowi – Won 3, Lost 1, Drew 1

Hillston – Won 2, Lost 2

Men’s Games

Barellan v Ivanhoe

The two teams at 2-0 go head-to-head first up here, both hoping to go top of the ladder. These two knocked off both of last year’s grand finalists last round, with the Rams also defeating Narrandera in Round 1. They both have teams worthy of winning the competition in 2025, and undoubtedly discipline will decide the result here and the winner will be odds-on for a home final in July. Last time they met was a golden point thriller won by Ivanhoe in the minor semi.

Head-to-Head: Ivanhoe 4, Barellan 3, Drew 1

Record at Goolgowi:

Barellan – Won 2, Lost 5

Ivanhoe – Won 3, Lost 5, Drew 1

Rankins Springs v Deniliquin

The Dragons started poorly in Round 2 and will be aiming to start their season again against the Blueheelers. Deniliquin improved a little in Round 2 and simply need better numbers to make an impact on the competition.

Head-to-Head: First Meeting

Record at Goolgowi:

Rankins Springs – Won 5, Lost 3, Drew 1

Deniliquin – First Appearance

Goolgowi v Hillston

The Rabbitohs had their first win in 9 games last start and will come up against a Bluebirds side fresh off two weeks off. Hillston haven’t really been tested yet, only facing a depleted Deni side in Ivanhoe, but this game against Goolgowi at home should give them a good measure of where they are at. Last time they met the Bluebirds had a close 12-6 win in Ivanhoe last season.

Head-to-Head: Goolgowi 3, Hillston 2

Record at Goolgowi:

Goolgowi – Won 6, Lost 2

Hillston – Won 3, Lost 4
