Women aged 18–49 who have been taking the pill continuously for at least two years can get up to 12 months of supply from a participating pharmacist.
Pharmacists who have completed additional training and work in pharmacies with suitable facilities can offer the service
The permanent scheme aims to reduce the need for a doctor's visit and make contraception more accessible and affordable
The trial began in September 2023 and involved more than 500 pharmacies.
The NSW government hopes that making the scheme permanent will lead to better outcomes.
