Carrathool race day pushed back into April

The annual Carrathool Races have announced a new date for the outback picnic race day.

Traditionally held in late February or early March, the 2025 race day will instead be held on Saturday, April 12.

Carrathool Jockey Club, led by president Hamish Armstrong, told The Area News the change of date was outside their control.

The initial date provided by Racing NSW was early in February, and Mr Armstrong said they felt it ran the risk of hot weather impacting crowd numbers and the health of the race horses and jockeys.

Ticketing and marquee information is yet to be released, but plans are underway for the Fashions on the Field contest and the unique Jackaroo and Jillaroo Dash foot races.

The Carrathool Jockey Club was established in 1883 and has hosted country racing for 136 years.
