Balranald falls to Lake Boga in clean sweep

Lake Boga dominates across football and netball, despite Balranald’s determined start in senior grades.


Despite valiant efforts from the Balranald Roos across all grades, Lake Boga made a commanding clean sweep when they travelled to Greenham Park for Round 8 action on Saturday.

The senior match provided the day's most entertaining contest, with the Roos showing tremendous fight in the opening half. At the main break, Balranald trailed by just three points, 47-44, setting up what promised to be a thrilling second half.

However, Lake Boga's class shone through in the final two quarters as they outscored the home side to secure a 28-point victory, winning 15.10 (100) to 10.12 (72).

The Roos can take heart from their competitive first-half performance, with standout efforts from Tanner Coulthard, Jack Salau, Ian Fuller, Jarryd Stead, Ryan Middlebrook, and Daniel Harris keeping them in the contest against the visiting side.

The Reserves match told a different story, with Lake Boga establishing their dominance early and maintaining it throughout the contest. The visitors ran out comprehensive 104-point winners, 15.22 (112) to 1.2 (8).

Despite the challenging scoreline, several Balranald players stood tall for the Roos, including Leslie Bodinnar, Bailey Brougham, Toby Lay, Jacob Shannon, Phil Connell, and Mitchell Carmichael, who continued to compete hard throughout the match.



The Colts (Under 18) match saw another solid Lake Boga performance, with the visitors winning 13.10 (88) to 7.10 (52), a 36-point margin that reflected their superior finishing around goal.

In the Under 15s, Lake Boga completed their perfect day with a 37-point victory, defeating Balranald 10.7 (67) to 4.6 (30).

Lake Boga's dominance extended to the netball courts, where they swept all six grades in convincing fashion.
